Experience pristine and awe-inspiring landscapes with this self-guided driving tour of Glacier National Park. Drive past glacial lakes, across alpine tundras, and into the heart of this expansive wilderness.
Your audio tour begins at either Saint Mary on the park’s eastern boundary or West Glacier on the western edge. From Saint Mary, the route takes you alongside the Saint Mary Lake, while introducing you to the park’s history, from the era of the Blackfoot Confederacy to early colonisation. You'll hear about a disastrous gold rush before reaching Sun Point Nature Trail, a brief walk that leads to a spectacular viewpoint. Following this, another trail leads you to Saint Mary Falls, a shimmeringly beautiful waterfall.
As your journey continues towards the West Tunnel, you'll gain insights into the local fauna. The tunnel offers observation windows with magnificent views of Heaven’s Peak. Crossing the continental divide, you'll learn about the impact wildfires have had on the park over time. As you approach Lake McDonald Lodge, you'll get to know the park’s marine wildlife and how certain reptiles and amphibians survive in such a cold climate.
The tour concludes at Apgar Village on the park’s western end. If starting from West Glacier, the same route is followed but in the reverse direction. This audio tour provides an intimate exploration of Glacier National Park's natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
