Japanese Washi paper-making experience in Asakusa

Learn the techniques of creating your very own washi by joining this Japanese Washi paper-making experience in Asakusa!

Japanese paper, known as "washi" in Japanese, has a rich history of over 1,000 years and is extensively used to restore valuable cultural artifacts due to its thin and delicate texture, combined with remarkable durability. As a cherished traditional craft of Japan, washi is celebrated for its exquisite dyeing techniques as well as its diverse range of colors, thicknesses, and unique manufacturing process.

During this experience, you'll delve into the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and create your own washi postcards using time-honored techniques.

Three options are available:

  • Option 1 – Premium Experience (60–90 min): create 4 postcards and a full-size “Rakusui paper”, known for its delicate, lace-like texture formed by dripping water during the papermaking process.
  • Option 2 – Enhanced Postcard Experience (45–60 min): create 4 postcards and add your personal touch by decorating them with colored Japanese papers, combining color layering with traditional washi methods
  • Option 3 – Standard Experience (30–40 min): create 4 postcards – a great option for those short on time
