Guided Atlas Mountains 4x4 tour

From sea level to high altitude, this is a full day trip with a side-order of adventure. You'll travel by 4x4 into the Atlas Mountains from the coastal plains of Agadir to discover the Berber village of Imouzzer Ida Outanane. Jamal, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Imouzzer means “waterfall” in Berber, the language of the Atlas Mountains. Indeed, there are several waterfalls in the heart of our green valley, a place known especially for the quality of its honey.'Your High Atlas Mountains off-road adventure begins with a light breakfast and then a photo stop at the cool, palm-clad Tamzargout oasis, where you can stretch our legs. As we travel higher up into the mountains, the jaw-dropping views over Paradise Valley are sure to leave an impression. We'll arrive in the village of Immouzer to see how life in a typical Berber mountain community unfolds. On hot days, you might see local kids jumping off the rocks into the natural pools just outside the village. As you stroll around the village, you'll pass stalls selling Moroccan souvenirs and the prized local honey. Jamal says, ‘My mother used to prepare an artisanal treat known as “amlou”, made with Immouzer honey mixed with crushed almonds and argan oil, a real Berber delicacy.' Next it's time for an al fresco lunch prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. You'll have some free time to relax and take in your dramatic surroundings before we return to Agadir through a different route in the mountains.

Bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and blessed with an enviable climate, its vast golden sandy beaches are one of its main attractions. As if that weren't enough, it also boasts a rich cultural and historical heritage, stunning natural attractions, delicious local cuisine, and options for both relaxation and adventure. Agadir is also an ideal starting point for exploring some of the country's most iconic spots. Keep reading to discover the must-do activities and excursions.

The Six Best Activities and Excursions in Agadir

1. Visit the Medina of Agadir and Souk El Had Among the must-see places in Agadir is the medina, a true architectural gem designed by architect Coco Polizzi, with construction beginning in 1992. Bargaining at the vast walled market, Souk El Had, is also an essential experience. With over 3,000 shops, it is one of the largest souks in Africa, and as you stroll through its colourful stalls, you can test your bargaining skills.

2. Explore the Kasbah Agadir Oufella Perched on a hill with stunning views over Agadir Bay, the ruins of the Kasbah Agadir Oufella are one of the city's most important historical attractions. This ancient fortress, devastated by the 1960 earthquake, was once a lively citadel that hosted traders from numerous countries. Thanks to a significant restoration project of the walls and the medina’s interior, visitors can now discover the past of one of Agadir's most iconic sites.

3. Marvel at the Tiout Oasis Just a two hours drive from Agadir, the palm grove of Tiout feels like a mirage come to life. Thanks to several irrigation channels running through the area, the oasis also boasts cereals and fruit trees fields. Travellers can take advantage of their visit to Tiout to enjoy a delicious meal at the local kasbah. Many excursions to the oasis also include a stop in the walled city of Taroudant, famous for its small medina and numerous souks.

4. Go Sandboarding on the Timlalin Dunes Excursions to the Timlalin dunes are a favourite for adventure lovers and thrill-seekers. These massive dunes on the Atlantic coast are the perfect spot for sandboarding. If you want an adrenaline-pumping experience, hop on a board and slide down the sand! There are varying degrees of slopes, so if it’s your first time, you can start with smaller inclines until you get the hang of it.

5. Venture into the Atlas Mountains Day tours to the Atlas Mountains are among the most sought-after experiences in Agadir. Along the way, you’ll admire the incredible views of Paradise Valley, and many tours include a stop at the Tamzargout oasis.
