Capri and Anacapri guided walking tour

4.4/5
117 reviews

If the Amalfi Coast is a string of pearls, then Capri is its jewelled pendant. This magnet for celebs since the days of Roman emperors is a must-visit. You'll take the ferry over, then head by minibus to Anacapri in the west of the island for some free time before making the trip to Capri town for a walking tour. Lucia, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘The church of San Michele in Anacapri is renowned for its majolica-tiled floor depicting scenes of earthly paradise and original sin from the Old Testament, and its beautiful dome. The 17th century Santo Stefano church in Capri town has a striking façade, featuring a series of sculptures and reliefs.'

There's often a clutch of A-listers holidaying on this ruggedly beautiful island in the summer months. When you arrive and zigzag up to Anacapri to wander along cobbled alleys of whitewashed houses, you'll see why. Anacapri is located high in the hills, from where the views over the Bay of Naples are spectacular. As well as enjoying a fabulous location, Anacapri exudes a traditional Italian vibe, whereas Capri town is more cosmopolitan.

In the afternoon, you'll be able to compare it with glamorous Capri when you arrive for a walking tour among the jet-setters in the bars, cafés and label-laden boutiques. Lucia adds, ‘Among the best places to see in Capri town are the Gardens of Augustus, which overlook the famous Faraglioni rocks. It's one of the best viewpoints on the island, and the gardens are pretty special, too.'

We really regretted booking this trip. It was the one tour that we booked with Tui and it just wasn't worth the money. The tour guide, Pepe, was very good, but the experience was just underwhelming and we would not recommend it. Very poor value for money in contrast to other tours that we experienced via other tour operators.

The guide was excellent, very friendly and knowledgeable. Capri is overrated, very expensive and commercialised.

Guilia our guide was excellent at keeping us all together. It was difficult using earpieces at times in 2 separate buses though Guilia did her best to repeat things. A nice overview of Capris and Anacapri. This should not be advertised as a walking tour as the amount of walking is purely to get from bus to main areas and back. Also, TUI should definitely be upfront about the optional extras. Chairlift €14 return and round the island boat trip €23 . Overall nice trip let down by added expenses.

Anacapri had good views of the island which was well worth visiting. Capri was very busy so difficult to really appreciate its beauty however enjoyed seeing the south side of the island where it was more scenic.
