Barcelona Modernist architecture walking tour

Discover the architectural history of Barcelona on a walking tour that shows you some of the city's most renowned Modernist structures, culminating with a delightful tapa and drink.

The tour begins at Plaça de Catalunya, one of Spain's largest squares. From there, you'll stroll down Barcelona's most iconic street, learning about the Passeig de Gracia district while mingling with locals. You'll see architectural gems such as Mercado El Nacional, Casa Amatller, and Rambla de Gaudí. As you admire the exterior of Casa Batlló, you'll gain insight into what Modernism meant for Barcelona and delve into the life of famed architect Antoni Gaudí during the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Next, you'll see the exterior of Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera due to its rough, unconventional aesthetic. You'll take the metro to Sagrada Família, Gaudí's most famous work, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an emblem of the city. After soaking up the sights and capturing photos, you'll head to the Rambla district for a leisurely stroll. A stop at a family-owned bar offers a chance to unwind with a drink, and naturally, no tour of Barcelona would be complete without a local tapa.

The tour concludes at Hospital de San Pau, an example of Modernist architecture constructed between 1901 and 1930 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. This journey through Barcelona's architecture is sure to leave you with a deeper appreciation for the city's heritage.
